At 7.30pm on Wednesday, 18th October 2017 DES CURTIS told of his experiences as RAF Aircrew flying the DH Mosquito Aircraft on secret missions during World War Two. This involved Barnes Wallace’s Bouncing Bombs. He explained that his squadron had the ball shaped bomb designed to sink enemy battle ships by exploding below the waterline and under their heavy armour plate. The barrel shaped bouncing bomb was designed for dam busting and being heavier were carried by the Lancaster Bomber. Des supported his talk with original video displayed by David Baldwin’s equipment and expertise. After the Interval Des now a civilian; told the story of his involvement in sorting out the legal ownership of the Bowleaze Jewel discovered by a friend in the shallows off the Cornish Coast. Happily the finder was also the final keeper and richer!
